These paintings are derived from my previous work as a registered nurse at a nursing home in Melbourne, Australia. They are of elderly blind men at the end stages of their lives. My work involved the physical and emotional care of these men; feeding, toileting, medicating and talking. Some of them were confused, but if you delve deeper, their confusion makes sense. These people lose their ability to care for themselves as a result of the normal process of ageing. They are vulnerable and sometimes go unnoticed by the rest of society.
